The Active Learning Specialist Summer Institute held at the Rockland BOCES July 9 – 11, 2019 was a great success. Four educators from the East Ramapo Central School District earned their Active Learning Specialist Certificates after submitting an active learning plan for their students.
Sponsored by the Rockland County Department of Health, the East Ramapo Central School District’s Teachers Center, Harrisburg University and Fizika Group, the Institute featured opening presentations by Carrie Steindorff, School Health Coordinator at the Rockland County Department of Health, and Martha Harris, Founder of Fizika Group, LLC.
The course was included in the grant budget for East Ramapo Central District because of Carrie’s positive experience when she took the course in 2014: “The Active Learning Specialist course provides insight into how best to use physical activity in school to help kids learn and move more, as well as bridge the gap between public health and education.”

The on-site Summer Institute gave the participating teachers time to meet and collaborate with one another on the development of active learning plans for their schools.
